On Purpose

I make an effort to live my life with intention and purpose. Each day I wake up ready to connect, contribute and grow. This feels like a life of purpose, intention and creation. I am in charge of what I do in life, but sometimes, being my own boss leads to inconsistencies and things like not posting a blog post for several months, happen.  So I felt compelled to share this with everyone, as living on purpose and living our purpose are two different actions that, when taken together, create a powerful shift and forward momentum in your life.

Here are 4 ways to live on purpose:

      1. Choose this day. Wake up and choose this day. Choose to appreciate it, experience it, enjoy it, notice it and feel it. Don’t tune out, don’t hide or run away. Face it, feel it, and actually allow yourself to be present. Tune in to all the little things around you. Tune in and allow your senses to inform you – don’t numb them out or ignore them. Don’t let this day fly by looking just like all the others. You have the power to choose anything that you want. If you are feeling stressed, overjoyed, apathetic, tired, happy, content – you’ve chosen it. Exercise your right to choose and immerse yourself in whatever experience is brought to you today.
      2. Visualize. This is by far one of my favorite exercises. Take the time to sit in silence for a bit and visualize what you want your life to be like. You can visualize a typical day in your ideal life, you can visualize the feelings you want to have each and every day, you can visualize how others treat you, you can visualize how you look and what you do each day or you can visualize your overall “essence” in this life. For example, if you want to be a powerful leader, then visualize the essence of that. Whatever you visualize, take it in and allow yourself to enjoy this and buy into it. In other words, allow yourself to actually feel like this is a possibility for you. Because it is. Whatever you are visualizing may not happen overnight, but it can and will happen as long as you move toward it. When you are finished with this process, which I would recommend you doing each day either in the morning or at night, then take action. Do something that sets your life or your mind in that direction.
      3. Share. Share your ideas, your dreams, your wishes, your feelings and your love with others. The more you talk about what you want in a positive way, the more you will feel able and worthy to have it. Also, the more you share your joy, passions and love, the more of that will be shared with you. We get back what we give out. If you want a purposeful life, then speak with purpose, share with purpose and know that as long as you are choosing to express purposefully, you will receive that in return.
      4. Know yourself. This may be listed as number 4, but it’s really one of the most important ways to live on purpose. You truly have to examine what it is that you hold on to that is either not your own or is no longer serving you in a positive way. This can be a mindset, a belief, a thought pattern, an opinion of yourself, a feeling, regrets, anger, hostility, secrets, resentments towards others, powerful attachments to things, people or situations (stories) from the past, physical objects, excess weight, stress, a job that sucks out your life energy, the list goes on and on – until you change it. On purpose. Figure out what baggage you have and release it. Just let it go. Don’t over think it, just do it. The more you get rid of and release, the more your true nature will be able to shine through. You will truly be able to live on purpose once this begins to take place and this step will lead you directly and effortlessly into living your LIFE PURPOSE. If you need help with this step, I would encourage you to get a counselor, read some books, hire a coach (I offer an intro session if you want to talk to me directly) and surround yourself with people who actually support you.

You can start living your life on purpose right now. You don’t have to wait. These small shifts in your everyday life will add up to tremendous changes and differences in your life in the future. I have been on my own personal journey now for more than 3 years. Discovering myself, learning what’s mine and what I can let go of, telling a new story about what my life really is and I’m hardly recognizable. There is an extreme difference between the woman I am today and the woman I was 3 years ago. I wouldn’t trade it for the world and this journey for me will never end.

So here’s to your journey. The one you choose to live on purpose! Cheers.
